A Bear
There are questions that my wife has always asked me, even before we were married, that I’ve never really been able to answer.
“Do you remember when we first met?”
Sort of, but I may be mistaken. I think we were introduced twice.
“Do you remember what you said to me?”
That’s impossible.
“What did you think of me?”
I don’t know. I think I thought you were interesting.
“Why did you never really flirt with me?”
I thought I was flirting with you?
“When did you realise that you loved me?”
Around the time I told you that I loved you, I would think.
Whenever she asks me these questions it occurs to me that if I can’t answer them now, I’ll never be able to answer them. Which makes me a bit sad.
“You’re a grizzly, grumpy old bear,” she says and kisses my cheek.
Surely even a bear could remember these simple kinds of things…?
